Heritage 50a

Quest for Ra

On Sunday morning, I got up early and dressed like a boy (my clothes from home so when I traveled, I would not be molested). I went to his church, there were no preparations for a wedding. So, I went to his house and followed a carriage that was leaving his house. I followed the carriage to a street where I could see 2 churches. I got out of my carriage, paid the driver and watched for something familiar. I looked for him and maybe her, from his description of her. Nothing. But, one church was preparing for a wedding. I waited. When the bridal party came out, it wasn't them. I was disappointed. I went to his house. His servants were placing luggage in his carriage. I asked them where the wedding was, because I needed to deliver a gift. They told me I arrived too late to stop the wedding, and the bride and groom were gathered with friends and relatives..preparing to get into her carriage. I knew he would return home sooner or later to get his luggage and decided to go back there. When I arrived, his carriage was gone. I went home, changed clothes and dressed like a lady and went back to his house. His butler was locking up. I asked him about the honeymoon. The butler said, "they sail for America today".

I went to the port to find out what ship was going to America and what time. I tried to buy a ticket but was told it was sold out. (chauvinist!) I rushed home and packed a few things, took my money, wrote a note to my mom and dressed like a boy, went down to the docks and petitioned to work on the ship on its journey to America. I was turned down. I sat on my luggage thinking to stow away at the opportune time.
