I first met Esteban on my journey. He advised me that other tribes
had been devastated as ours was. He warned me that it would be a terrible
danger should I insist on going alone. I stubbornly refused to let
my opponents hold my son without a fight. He said he would accompany
me.We visited a few other tribes that had been torn apart and a few of their
warriors accompanied us. I tracked the enemy. We rested until nightfall.
We knew they were cannibals and baby meat is sweet so we figured they would
be preparing to eat the children the next day. The pots were boiling with
spices and the scent of meat herbs filled the surrounding jungle. I watched
and waited vigilantly. The warriors that were with me slept quietly. As soon
as the village was quiet and the citizens presumably asleep, I went into
one of the huts and picked up my son. He was quiet.
I drew my saber and entered the huts, one by one, holding my son, I
chopped off their heads and then called the other warriors to burn the village.
We took all the captive children with us. Some of them took their children
home. Others, whose children had been damaged in the fire, and fights and
kidnapping, did not want their children. They advised me to kill them. As
I would not allow them to be further hurt, they told me to keep them. I took
them home with me.
